Despite our collective fear of cholesterol, as it turns out, the connection between its levels in the blood and poor health, cardiovascular or otherwise, is less than convincing. People with high cholesterol can live long lives and people with low cholesterol have heart disease.
What is true is that cholesterol is arguably the most important biochemical in the body.
It stimulates healing and is the source of hormones that stimulate youth and fertility. Cholesterol also keeps the skin hydrated, soft and youthful.
What is also true is that cholesterol levels go up when blood sugar goes up. So, if you really want to lower cholesterol levels, instead of statin drugs, stay away from sweets and high carbs and use foods and nutrients that help lower blood sugar.
Fibery vegetables are important and the minerals Zinc and Chromium as well. And nothing, including statin drugs has more cholesterol lowering properties than Vitamin B3 or Niacin.
