Pharmacist Ben Fuchs discussed natural health remedies and the vitamins, nutrients, and minerals our bodies need to maintain good health. Optimal health comes down to three factors, he said-- working on digestion, stabilizing the blood sugar, and relaxing the body (stress management). These are the three points that can break down and lead to disease, he explained. Glucosamine, while often presented as an anti-arthritis and joint supplement, is also good for the heart, intestines, blood, and skin because it builds the connective tissue, he noted. The supplement hyaluronic acid is a powerful molecule that absorbs water and can fight wrinkles and improve skin quality, he shared.
Fuchs praised riboflavin (a B vitamin), which he said is good for the eyes and chapped lips, as well as for migraine headaches. Another B vitamin, pantothenic acid, is useful for fat metabolism, maintaining healthy skin, and treating arthritis and acne, he continued. When asked what's the best fruit for the body, he recommended papaya, one of nature's richest sources of vitamin C, which also has wonderful enzymes that aid digestion and have anti-inflammatory properties. Kiwis, he added, are an excellent source of vitamin C, too.
